HORTICULTURE & SERICULTURE

About Horticulture Department:

Jangaon district having an area of 16664 Acres under Horticulture crops. Out of which the area under Fruits – 9998 Ac, Spices – 2182 Ac, Vegetables – 2744 Ac, Flowers – 11 Ac, Sericulture – 187 Ac , Agro Forestry 1362 Ac , Oil Palm 100 Acres and Boundary Plantation 80 Acres . The soils of this district are Red soil and to some extent Black cotton soils. The Major Irrigation source is Tanks, Canals, Open wells and Bore wells.

SCHEMES IMPLEMENTATION FOR THE YEAR 2021-2022 :

I. STATE HORTICULURE MISSION :-

i). AREA EXPANSION UNDER FRUIT CROPS: Main objective is to bring additional areas under fruit crop with improved varieties. Farmers who are having assured source of irrigation and power supply are only selected with integration of micro irrigation.

Subsidy : 40% on plant material inputs such as vermicompost , FYM, Fertilizers, PP chemicals and implements.

ii). 2nd & 3rd YEAR MAINTENANCE : 2nd and 3rd year maintenance will be given based on plants survival percentage of 75% and 90% respectively and the beneficiaries have to take up gap filling on their own.

iii). VEGETABLE SEEDLINGS (MIDH) : Seedlings/Plug lings will be produced and supplied to the farmers from COE, Mulugu , Siddipet district .

Subsidy for Vegetable Area Expansion Rs.20,000/- per Ha.

Pattern of assistance: 40% . Maximum eligibility: 2.5 acres per beneficiary per annum.

iv). INDIVIDUAL FARM PONDS : Assistance would be provided for creating water source through construction of Farm Ponds for individuals.

Assistance @ 50% on Unit cost Rs. 125/- per Cubic mts. will be provided including the cost of plastic / RCC lining. Lining material should confirm to BIS standards Maintenance of the asset will be the responsibility of beneficiary.

v). MULCHING : Plastic Mulching, have proven its efficiency in increased production, improved produce quality and increased water-use efficiency etc.

Mulching sheet costing Rs.32,000/- per Ha will be given on 50% subsidy to farmers with maximum limit 2 Ha/Beneficiary.

II . SERICULTURE ACTIVITIES : Sericulture is an agro-based cottage industry, providing an employment to the rural people to uplift them from below poverty line, with low investment and high returns. Mostly women involvement is more (80%) in the Sericulture industry (Mulberry Plantation, Rearing, Reeling and Weaving). It checks the migration of the rural people to cities.

  • COCOON MARKET:- A notified Government Cocoon Market was established in the year 2012 with the assistance of Central Silk Board and State share to avoid distance marketing and transportation of cocoons. So the farmers are getting reasonable price in their vicinity and good returns. This is the only notified cocoon market in entire Telangana State which covers in and around of the districts and other states.

III. TELANGANA STATE MICRO IRRIGATION :

Drip Irrigation 100% Subsidy given to SC & ST farmers, 90% subsidy to small and Marginal farmers and 80% subsidy to other farmers with maximum eligibility up to 12.50 Acres can be given to the farmers.

Sprinklers Irrigation : – All Categories of Farmers can avail 75% subsidy.

IV. NATIONAL FOOD SECURITY MISSION – OIL PALM PLANTATION : For Oil Palm plantation programme TS, Oilfed was allocated to Jangaon district . The required Oil Palm plants will be produced by TS Oilfed. The extension service/Technical guidance and Finance Assistance for Oil Palm plants and drip irrigation (as per TSMIP guidelines) will be provided by the Department of Horticulture, Government of Telangana, Hyderabad for establishment and maintenance of the gardens.).

Assistance will be provided @ Rs. 12000/- per Ha. for Plant Material and Rs. 5000/- per Ha. per maintenance of plantation.
